Piaget Altiplano watches are known for their ultra-thin‍‍‍ elegant designs. 2017 marks the 60th anniversary of these iconic timepieces, and Piaget is marking the occasion with a unique twist.

n 1957, Piaget revolutionized the watchmaking world with the ultra-thin design of its Altiplano timepiece, redefining the codes of a new elegance. With the Altiplano, Piaget crafted a watch movement of unprecedented thinness, in the process endowing it with a distinguished look that immediately earned it a place in watchmaking history.

A legend was born, and to mark the 60th anniversary of the iconic model’s launch, Piaget is dedicating 2017 to the Altiplano watch. As part of the yearlong celebrations dedicated to this watchmaking icon, Piaget has given the timeless classic an unexpected twist – by turning it into a pocket watch.

Set on a blue calfskin string to match its Piaget blue dial, the Altiplano 60th Anniversary Pocket Watch is a collector’s must have; its limited run of only 26 units produced further adding to its exclusivity and desirability.

When displayed on a specialy-designed marquetry stand, the legendary Altiplano becomes more than watch; it becomes a piece of art, a timeless expression of elegance.

Resolutely discreet and never ostentatious, the Altiplano attaches itself to the wearer by a blue calfskin string. The blue theme is continued on its sunburst dial finished in a rich deep shade and paired with white gold slim single hour-markers and accordingly slim baton-type hands typical of the Altiplano collection.

Design cues harking ‍‍‍back history include a fine blue cross on the face that once featured in earliest versions of the Altiplano, whilst the historical Piaget logo on the dial is reminder of the first model of the line.

Inside the slender case is the equally slender 1200P ultra-thin self-winding mechanical movement, its sophisticated complexity visible through a sapphire case back.

Further homage to the Altiplano’s spirit of creativity, the pocket w‍‍‍atch can be transformed into a beautiful table clock when placed in the centre of an elegant blue marquetry stand punctuated by sleek markers, which are crafted with precision to match the markers on the watch’s dial within a hundredth of a millimetre.

From breaking records of slenderness with breathtakingly thin movements to evolving its appearance with new materials and colours, the Piaget Altiplano is always an original; the 60th Anniversary Pocket Watch demonstrates the ability of this icon to reinvent itself whilst staying true to the design codes that have made it the epitome of elegance for six decades.
